Biblical verses about worship and praise to God

We have already written a lot about praise and worship and we will continue to do so, as this is a topic very much addressed in the Scriptures, since throughout it we will find innumerable biblical verses that emphasize the importance of praising and worshiping the One who is forever and ever.

Here are seven verses from the Bible about worship and praise to God. Each of the biblical verses is accompanied by a brief explanation.

Worship at all times

We must worship God at all times, whether we are happy or sad, in poverty or wealth, in health or disease, we must not make a distinction to worship or not to worship God. Job had this very clear, because he worshiped God at a time where he received tragic news, one after the other.

20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,

21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.

Job 1:20-21

Praise is only for God

Only from God is all the glory and praise, He does not share this with anything or anyone.

I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Isaiah 42:8

What God demands

In Deuteronomy 10, God demands that the people fear Him, walk in His ways and serve Him with all their heart and soul (verse 12). In addition to keeping His statutes, He also requires them to serve Him alone (verse 20), and He must be the goal of praise because He did great things with them:

He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.

Deuteronomy 10:21

The right place to worship?

In Jesus’ day it was debated on what was the right place to worship God, but Jesus said that the day and time would come when the place where you are worshiping will not matter, but do so in Spirit and in truth:

20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

John 4:20-21

Sacrifice of Praise

In the previous section we talked about worshiping in Spirit and in truth, and it is that praise should not be only from the lips to outside, it is not something mechanical, praise is a fruit, praise comes from people who confess the name of our God:

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Hebrews 13:15

Song of praise and worship

We know that the Psalms urge us to praise and worship God, but there is a special psalm that clearly tells us that we have to get to Him with songs and praises:

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

Psalm 95:2

And why should we do this? Verse 3 of Psalm 95 gives us the answer: For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. Let us sing and praise before Him, Hallelujah!

Celestial worship

We have said tirelessly that we were created to worship God. We worship God here on Earth and will continue to worship Him for the eternity of eternities.

10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
