On this occasion we will talk about Psalm 95, which was quoted in chapter 4 of Hebrews. The author of the Hebrews makes reference to the fact that David was the writer of this wonderful psalm, although there is no author attributed in it. On the other hand, this psalm is full of ordinances to give praise to God.
1 O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
Psalm 95:1-2
Let’s sing
There are various ways to praise God, such as doing good, living in holiness, etc. But there is another way that is highlighted as very important and that the Bible commands us again and again to carry it out, and it is “to sing to God”.
The psalmist here says: “Let us sing with joy to the rock of our salvation”. Praise is a vital part of the church of Jesus Christ, the songs, the hymns, these kinds of expressions are very important when it comes to worshiping God.
And as we have already said, the Bible again and again tells us that we must sing to God:
2 Praise the Lord with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.
3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.
Psalm 33:2-3
But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
Psalm 5:11
Make a joyful noise
Then in verse two of Psalm 95, the psalmist also uses the expression “make a joyful noise” after having used it in verse one: “and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms”.
What does it refer with and make a joyful noise? The first thing is that this involves a crowd or a community, then we can say that it is the enthusiasm through voices and applause to a person, in this case to God.
The psalmist says that all together in the congregation should be sufficiently excited by singing, with voices of jubilation and applause to God.
Dear brothers, let’s sing and praise our God together!
