Listen to the song “Hallelujah” on Array Mbira

Surely you have already heard the song “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen, which has several versions and today is like a national anthem. But you may be surprised by the name “Array mbira”, in this article we explain about it.

Array mbira is a modern handmade musical instrument, which has some resemblance to the harp or a bell. It was created in the United States by Bill Wesley. If you think it is something new you are wrong, since its development began in 1960.


As you can see in the image, the instrument is made up of several metal teeth which are grouped into several octaves. This instrument, unlike the piano which traverses the chromatic scale, the mbira traverses the circle of fifths in a direction from left to right.
