Social networks have become part of the lives of many, and especially of celebrities. Many seek approval on the social networks, likes, gain more followers, get positive comments, and this can even lead to frustration for not getting the expected numbers and receiving a large number of negative comments.
Tori Kelly, winner of several Grammy Awards, spoke about this issue of seeking acceptance on social media, and asked Christians to take refuge in God instead of seeking acceptance on social media.
Tori Kelly spoke about how deeply loved she feels by God, that she prefers to hear what God says about her and not what the world thinks. But she did not leave reality, but she left her feet on the ground by saying that not thinking about what the world says is something complicated.
The singer quoted Psalm 91:4 making relevance of preferring to take refuge in God instead of the world:
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his fidelity will be your shield and bulwark.
Psalm 91:4 (KJV)
She continued: “I love that image of having a safe place, having this place of refuge when the world is crazy. Just have that kind of peace. I can have this quiet moment, and it’s just me and God, and I can fix my head and my soul and then go back out there and do my thing.”
The reflexion of the singer Kelly is very good, since truly our refuge must be God and not the words that people who do not even know us say. Kelly, won the Grammy in 2019 and recorded a gospel album with Kirk Franklin.
