Oh Lord, open our lips to give you praise

The book of Psalms is full of incredible songs, some of them talking about the Messiah, others of won wars, another confessing sins, such as Psalm 51, a Psalm where David confesses his sin, that sin he committed by murder to Uriah (2 Samuel 2:11). Do you think David committed this sin and it just didn’t hurt him? Well, no, this Psalm is a clear expression that he had been silent for a long time and wanted his lips to publish praises to our God again.

The children of God also sin although this does not justify us, but in fact, the Bible tells us that we have a lawyer for when we sin, which is Jesus Christ (1 John 2:1). Now, a distinctive mark of a child of God is the constant struggle with sin, the hatred of it, and a great blow to the soul when it comes to committing it.

David had great pain in his soul, since he knew that he had sinned, and not only did he feel bad as a leader, as far as the people could say, beyond that he felt bad because he knew that he had failed God. How do you feel when you sin?

David says:

O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

Psalm 51:15

It is good that we ask the same to the Lord at times like those we have already described. Ask Him to forgive us regardless of everything and help us praise Him.

There are times when we simply do not get any kind of praise from our lips and we must go to the Lord and accept our condition, accept that we have no strength at the moment and that we only depend on the powerful hand of God.

David was king of Israel, but this did not give him enough pride to believe that without God he could continue fighting, on the contrary, he recognized that he still needed God to open his mouth and praise Him.

Beloved brothers, we need God at all times, His strength and His help, so let us pray that God opens our lips to praise Him continually.
