Bible verses about singing to God

Singing is a way of praising God. The Bible tells us that we were created to worship God, and singing psalms is a way to praise His blessed name. We will leave you only some of the many verses that exist in the Bible that urge us to sing to the Lord.

Sing well

It is very common to hear people say when taking an opportunity to sing “I do not know how to sing but as it is for God …” implying that there is no effort to do things well done for Him, when the Bible teaches us contrary;

Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.

Psalm 33:3

Play skilfully … It doesn’t say “as it is for God, do it as you wish.” No. We must do it very well. He is God, and everything He did made it good. Shouldn’t we make an effort so that what we are going to give Him is something of quality?

Sing to the Creator of everything

God created everything, so we must sing with joy.

Sing, O ye heavens; for the Lord hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.

Isaiah 44:23

Sing for His greatness

After the great feat of passing the people of Israel dry through the Red Sea to free them from the hand of Pharaoh, there was great joy with songs and dances:

And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

Exodus 15:21

Sing to Him because He has done well

God is the one who sustains us day by day and does us good, so we must sing to Him.

I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

Psalm 13:6

Confess God to the nations, sing to His name

We must proclaim the name of the Lord among the nations and sing to His name.

Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.

2 Samuel 22:50

Sing to Him in your victories

When Deborah and Barak defeated Sisera, they sang a song to God:

Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.

Judges 5:3

Our song must be Him

Why do many Christian artists compose songs that talk about us when our song must be God?

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
