Is it necessary for a Christian singer to be a theologian?

We can not minimize the responsibility of a Christian singer, since he is the one in charge of singing lyrics during the worship service in the place where we congregate. It is assumed that being a Christian singer is not simply the art of singing with a beautiful voice, but it is a person who transmits teachings through this talent.

We must understand that Christian music, in addition to glorifying God, is about teaching the people who are gathered there. Do you remember the book of Psalms? Does not this book have a high theological content? It is not just about poetry or beautiful verses, the book of Psalms deals with passages that are really profound and that always give glory to God. I can not imagine David or the other psalmists being neophytes, I imagine them being great leaders who handled the Scriptures with great precision.

We are not saying that it is mandatory for a Christian singer to go to a theology school, although that would be best. But we are saying that a Christian singer should handle the Scriptures well, since he is a minister of music and Christian music contains theology, I say, it contains it if they are really songs based on the Bible.

And this is where the problem is, when we have Christian singers who just sing beautiful but do not know anything about the Bible, do you know what they end up doing? They end up writing songs that are only motivational or songs that contradict the Bible, which ruins the real purpose, which is to give glory and honor to God with everything we do.

The apostle Paul said:

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31

On the other hand, Paul also wrote that the Word of God should be our source of inspiration in everything we do and that also includes music:

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

Therefore, we urge everyone who is in the area of music, to study the Word of the Lord and to handle it with precision, and in this way we will have music with biblical content that give glory to God.
