The Second Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), in the session of Tuesday, November 3, reversed the decision of the judge of the Court of Justice of the State of Rio de Janeiro (TJ-RJ) that had determined the censorship of the Porta dos Fundos Christmas Special: The first temptation of Christ.
For the ministers, remove this material from circulation only because its content displeases a part of the population, even if it is the majority, does not find foundation in a democratic and pluralistic society such as that of Brazil. The board unanimously dismissed Complaint (RCL) 38782.
In short, the controversial Christmas comedy that portrays Jesus as gay will remain on Netflix, the most popular streaming platform for series and movies. This Christmas special made a lot of noise between December 2019 and January 2020. Many even canceled their Netflix accounts because they understood that this way the platform could decline in income and was not going to obtain funds to continue making productions like this (although that production belongs to another company outside Netflix).
Almost a year has passed since this controversy and Netflix was embroiled in another controversy over the film Cuties, where underage girls are shown doing sensual dances and wearing clothes that leave little to the imagination. And although Netflix has lost many subscriptions due to this latest controversy, it seems that the platform will continue for a long time to make this type of productions that goes against good values. Let’s keep praying to God and see how all this continues evolving.
